The EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro sits in the mid-range sweet spot: enough capacity (768 Wh) to run a 12 V fridge, charge laptops repeatedly and keep a small campsite lit for a weekend, yet still portable enough at 7.8 kg to carry from the car to a pitch. It’s the sort of unit that does the job for most people, most of the time — without the weight or cost of a 1000 Wh-plus station.
EcoFlow’s X-Stream fast charging is the headline feature: 0–80% in around 45 minutes from a mains socket. If you’ve ever packed the car and realised the power station is flat, that speed is transformative.

What the RIVER 2 Pro does well
Charge speed is the differentiator. Most competing units in this capacity range take 3–5 hours from mains; the RIVER 2 Pro manages full in around 70 minutes. For households where the power station lives in a cupboard and gets grabbed before trips, that turnaround is a genuine advantage.
X-Boost mode lets it handle appliances up to 1,600 W by intelligently throttling power delivery. It won’t boil a kettle at full speed, but it will run a small heater, a low-wattage hair dryer, or a rice cooker that would trip a standard 800 W inverter. The trade-off is slower heating and higher battery drain, but it extends the range of usable devices considerably.
Build quality is noticeably solid. The rubberised feet stop it sliding in a van, the screen is clear in daylight, and the EcoFlow app gives real-time monitoring of input/output, battery health and charging schedules.
Honest limitations
768 Wh is mid-range for a reason — it’s not a home backup unit. A full-size fridge-freezer drawing 150 W compressor cycles would drain it overnight. It’s better suited to a 12 V compressor coolbox or short-duration mains fridge backup.
No expansion battery port. If your needs grow, you can’t bolt on extra capacity; you’d need to move up to the DELTA series. This is a sealed, single-battery system.
At around £350–500 depending on promotions, it’s not the cheapest 700 Wh-class unit. You’re paying a premium for EcoFlow’s charge speed and app ecosystem — worth it for some, less so if you mostly charge overnight and care more about price per watt-hour.

Who should look elsewhere
If you need full overnight fridge backup or high-draw appliances — look at the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic (1,024 Wh, 1,800 W).
If weight is the priority and you only need phone/laptop power — the Jackery Explorer 240 v2 (256 Wh, 3.6 kg) is half the weight.
If expandable capacity matters — the RIVER 2 Pro cannot be expanded.
